The Voice Norway is def not something to sleep on, after Herman Lie wowed music lovers all over the world with his delectable take on Chris Isaak’s classic “Wicked Game.” The 19-year-old has the voice of an angel, and he used it to give the ‘80s country rock hit a Lewis Capaldi-style workover. Lie’s husky opening was so undeniable that two judges turned their chairs before he got through the first line. He then lifted to a honeyed midrange, and the two other judges turned their chairs before the chorus.
Lie saved the best for last when he lifted to the top of his range for the main hook and took everyone to heaven with a falsetto that had the judges spellbound. When he finished the hook the female judges were giggling and squealing – clearly the lad has the Midas touch. In addition to having a sublime voice, Lie showed off excellent instincts with his song choice, as it sounded like “Wicked Game” was just made for him. The Music Man puts this one down as easily one of the best auditions on The Voice in recent memory.
The Voice Norway uploaded Lie’s audition on January 11, 2025, where it became the most-watched video of the season with 3.4 million views. Fans raved below the video, adding comments such as “Herman Lie is my fav among all The Voice singers around the world, and the fastest four-chair turn goes to him. Norway definitely has mesmerizing voices and so much hidden talent” and “Herman Lie is definitely one of the great talents of our age. I could listen to that voice all day, every day.”
Lie kept up the cracking song choices by performing Alphaville’s “Forever Young” on his appearance on The Voice on May 18, 2025. Lie also kept up his signature style in this performance, stripping back the ‘80s hit to an e-piano arrangement that allowed him to show off his impressive vocal talents. The really good stuff happened at 1:08 when the Norwegian talent lifted to the high range melodies at the end of the song, leading to an epic closing high note.
Herman Lie has made five appearances so far this season on The Voice Norway. After his four-chair turn audition, the teen progressed straight to the battles at the tail end of the season. The Music Man readers might be interested to hear that Lie has since progressed through the quarterfinals, and also the semifinals with his performance of “Forever Young.” He is currently in the top three and in strong contention to take the crown this season.
