When Daryl Hall invited Kenny Loggins to rock “Footloose” with the boys at his house, something magical happened! The Hall & Oates frontman has a long-running series of live sessions from his home studio, and this May 2024 sesh might just be the best yet! Loggins is 76, while Hall was 78 when the video was shot, but while jamming with Hall’s band, they look like a bunch of excited kids just rocking out in the garage, with big cheesy grins all around!

The fun vibe in the room is def super infectious, and The Music Man readers might just find themselves grinning from ear to ear as they watch. Loggins sounds absolutely incredible on lead vocals, while Hall and his band provide some super tasty backing vocals. Needless to say, the band was popping off big time with a funky and loose groove – perfect for getting some feet moving. That iconic jangly main guitar riff from Loggins and Hall is just so satisfying to listen to.
Hall and Loggins’ collab was well received online, with the video already racking up one million views. Fans showed their appreciation below the video with comments such as “This is what you get when you put a handful of incredible musicians together in the studio!” and “This version is kicking! Love it! ‘Footloose’ is my childhood. Thanks for sharing Daryl.”
Hall releases studio sessions from his Live From Daryl’s House series on a regular basis, with a number of big names making appearances. The most popular live studio sesh from the series so far is when Todd Rundgren dropped in to sing his 1978 classic “Can We Still Be Friends.” The acoustic number features a gorgeous vocal line from Rundgren, Hall and his band, and has drawn 1.8 million views.
Kenny Loggins released “Footloose” on January 11, 1984, as the lead single from the Kevin Bacon film of the same name. Loggins co-wrote the rocker with Dean Pitchford, and co-produced it with Lee DeCarlo. The Music Man readers might be interested to learn that the single was one of Loggins’ two contributions to the film soundtrack, with his other single for the film being “I’m Free (Heaven Helps the Man).” While Loggins had previously found success as an album-oriented artist, the release of “Footloose” marked his debut as a genuine hitmaker, as the single went to number one in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. The single went on to gain a Platinum certification in the US, and a three times Platinum certification in the UK.
