Sydnie Christmas, Britain’s Got Talent 2024 winner, once again captivated audiences with a stunning live performance of “Defying Gravity” aboard the Independence of the Seas.

Teaming up with a pianist, the 29-year-old singer impressed fans with her remarkable vocal range, control, and emotional depth, delivering a rendition that many have called “legendary” and “one of the best voices you will ever hear” on the iconic song.
The performance immediately sparked a wave of praise online. Fans marveled at her ability to hit powerful notes while maintaining perfect control and tone, describing her voice as “unique” and “unreal.” One fan remarked,
“Ok, she’s not just good. She’s great. This is LIVE. She’s hitting every note, her tone is fantastic, her voice has power that many vocalists can only dream of, AND she has such great control in that power, too!”
Others pointed out her natural stage presence and artistry:
“The whole world hears you now. You are the epitome of hard work, dedication, talent, skill and the ability to embody what you sing.”

Many viewers are now pleading for her to take on the role of Elphaba in Wicked, a dream she seems perfectly suited for, with one fan commenting,
“While watching her on BGT I was thinking I would love to see her as Elphaba, and then I come across this! Incredible!”
Sydnie’s rise to stardom began with a golden buzzer moment from Amanda Holden during her rendition of “Tomorrow” from Annie, sending her straight to the live shows. Staying true to her love of musicals, her moving performance of “Over the Rainbow” ultimately earned her the win in June 2024, ahead of magician Jack Rhodes and the mother-daughter dancing duo Abigail and Afronita. With her victory, she took home £250,000 and an opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.

Since then, Sydnie has taken a balanced approach to her career. She resumed her education, completing a Level Three PT qualification, and has carefully saved her winnings for future stability, including a house. In an interview with the Daily Mail, she explained,
“All I ever wanted was stability… I’ve put it all away in a savings account. Once I earn more money in the future, I’ll treat myself to something extravagant. For now, I’m just happy to be working.”
Her professional momentum is undeniable. Sydnie sold out her first New York show at Sony Hall in April and released her debut album, My Way, in October. The album includes a cover of Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again, commemorating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. Reflecting on her BGT journey, she shared on Instagram,

“It completely changed my life… It reminds me to be brave, to keep going, and to trust my instincts. I put my heart and soul into my version and I’m so proud of what we achieved.”
With performances like “Defying Gravity,” Sydnie Christmas has proven she is more than a talent show winner — she is a phenomenon, a performer capable of lifting audiences with every note, and a rising star who could soon be lighting up Broadway stages worldwide.
