When Ed Sheeran arrived in Auckland, New Zealand, for his show in 2015, he stopped at the hospital to surprise a leukaemia patient.
Back in 2015, Ed Sheeran gave one of his fans an unforgettable memory. While touring in Auckland, New Zealand, the singer took time out of his busy schedule to visit Jess Knight, a young leukaemia patient. Jess had bought tickets to his 2014 concert but couldn’t attend due to chemotherapy. Her friends launched a social media campaign to make her dream of meeting Ed a reality.
Their efforts paid off within weeks. When Ed arrived in Auckland for his next show, he stopped by the hospital to surprise Jess. She got to meet her favourite musician, surrounded by her family and friends, making the moment even more magical as it happened on her 20th birthday.
Ed Sheeran’s Special Surprise
Anna Strong, the friend who started the Ed Visit Jess campaign, felt the meeting was truly special. For her, watching Jess spend time with the British singer was a moment she’ll never forget. Jess Knight, along with 12 of her close friends and family, was able to spend close to 30 minutes with Ed Sheeran. During the visit, he also signed a CD for her.
Jess Shares Her Experience
Speaking about the experience with Stuff, Jess Knight said, “It was amazing. The whole experience was surreal. Ed was a really nice guy, down to earth and genuine. We talked about the Lego movie – he recommended I watch it today. And he talked about when he was in Perth, and he saw lots of sharks, and he said he hoped New Zealand didn’t have as many.”
After meeting the singer, Jess thanked Ed on the Facebook post, she wrote, “I would just like to say a huge thank you to you guys. Thank you so much for all of the sharing and hashtagging you guys did. You all helped make my birthday the best ever because guess what!? WE DID IT. Ed came and visited it. He was such a lovely guy! Really genuine and down to earth. I couldn’t stop smiling. Thank you again! You will never know how much it meant to me.”
