Imagine Dragons’ 100% Unrehearsed Cover Of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” Is Straight Fire, As Dan Reynolds Effortlessly Drops A Banging Flow On The Rap God’s Iconic Hit After A $25k Request For Charity

When Imagine Dragons were asked to play Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” for $25,000, completely unrehearsed, frontman Dan Reynolds stepped up big time! The group were performing at a pediatric cancer charity event, Rise Up Gala, when a generous young man called James said he’d donate $25k if they could drop the Rap God’s hit. That’s one helluva song to perform unrehearsed, especially with those novel-length verses. Reynolds is just built different though, and he stepped up to the plate to drop a legendary performance.

As Imagine Dragons settled into that iconic beat, Reynolds said, “We’ve never done this, but for $25,000 for pediatric cancer, we’ve gotta try.” The frontman showed off a lithe flow on the opening acoustic verse, and then brought the thunder as the drums came in. For a guy that makes his bread and butter singing rock and pop, Reynolds sure can throw down on the mic as a rapper. The Music Man has to give it up to Reynolds as he not only crushed it, but also did it in his own style, making for a unique performance.

Imagine Dragons performed their unrehearsed take on “Lose Yourself” on September 20, 2024, at the Tyler Robison Foundation’s Rise Up Gala at Wynn Las Vegas. Fans were blown away and added comments such as “I’m speechless but I wouldn’t expect anything less, he’s incredibly talented” and “Damn. This song always gives me chills, but this guy casually performing a cover and actually delivers.”

Imagine Dragons always bring the unexpected when they drop a cover. The Las Vegas stars performed a gorgeous rendition of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” for German radio station 1Live. The band stripped the ’82 synthpop hit back to a delicate acoustic folk arrangement with plenty of delectable vocal harmonies. It’s completely different from the sound Imagine Dragons display on their hits, but the band showed again that they can nail any style here.

Eminem released “Lose Yourself” as a single on October 28, 2002, and featured the song on the soundtrack to his biopic 8 Mile. Em wrote the lyrics and produced the song, and also co-wrote the music with Jeff Bass and Luis Resto. Eminem scored a massive critical and commercial success with “Lose Yourself,” with the song going to number one in 22 countries. The Music Man readers probably won’t be surprised to hear that critics named the hit as not only one of Em’s finest hours, but also one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever written.
