Jourdan Leaves Adele Fans Speechless with His Emotional and Stunning Live Cover of “Rolling in the Deep”

When Jourdan Blue stepped onto the stage to perform a live cover of Adele’s iconic “Rolling in the Deep,” there was no autotune, no editing—just raw, powerful talent. The America’s Got Talent sensation left fans of the British singer stunned, turning the song into something uniquely his own while maintaining its emotional depth.

Social media quickly erupted with praise for Blue’s rendition. Comments ranged from simple admiration—“I could listen to you all day”—to more exuberant reactions like, “Absolutely amazing! Everything you sing, all genres, you nail it!” Fans encouraged him to bring the performance to AGT finals, while others marveled at his ability to sing any song with authenticity and soul. One fan wrote simply, “Jourdan I love how you sing from deep down in your soul.” Another summed up the reaction: “I am convinced you can sing anything.”

For Blue, music has been a lifelong passion, even if a professional career wasn’t initially in his plans. In eighth grade, a friend persuaded him to audition for The Little Mermaid, a role he initially thought was “terrible.” After taking the plunge, he landed the role of Prince Eric. “That experience sparked a new passion,” the 23-year-old told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “Being on stage in front of a packed crowd, holding their attention—it felt so powerful and exciting. That’s when I really discovered my love for performing.”

Over the following years, Blue honed his voice and stage presence through musicals and live performances. A secret submission by a friend to American Idol led to an audition, setting the stage for his future success. Though his 2022 Idol journey didn’t go as planned, it opened new doors. Inspired by a street performer he met there, Blue began performing on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, often powered only by a speaker connected directly to his car battery. Videos of these car-powered street performances went viral, helping him reach an even wider audience through social media platforms, especially TikTok.

Blue’s following grew steadily—from 10,000 to 40,000 and beyond. “I started going live, and that really became my thing,” he said. “At first, it wasn’t about building a brand—I just wanted to get better at my craft, practice, and get new song requests. Slowly, I started building a room of people who were there consistently.” For Blue, TikTok offered a way to connect with thousands of fans he might never meet in person, refining his craft and building confidence in the process.

Among his most memorable performances was a spring break show atop a lifted Tahoe, performing for 500–600 people packed onto Bourbon Street. He remembers grabbing fans’ phones, taking photos with them, and returning them mid-song—a gesture that perfectly captured the energy exchange he experiences with his audiences. “Music is healing,” Blue explains. “When I’m being healed by a song I’m singing, everyone who’s listening feels a little of that too. It’s like that energy is projected outward.”

Despite his talent, Blue’s path was not without struggle. At 16, he faced addiction and homelessness, living between friends’ houses and even sleeping in a bathroom at his job. His grandfather eventually stepped in, offering a safe home and support during a pivotal moment in his life. By 18, after surviving a near-fatal overdose, Blue made the difficult decision to quit substances entirely, a choice that gave him a renewed perspective on life and fatherhood.

With a young son, Blue now cherishes the simple moments and carries the lessons of his past into every performance. That perspective became especially meaningful after the tragic New Year’s Day incident on Bourbon Street, which claimed multiple lives. Blue had planned to perform that night but was sick at home—a moment he reflects on as providential. “It made me realize that I love performing in the street, but I can’t do this forever,” he says. “I want to find a safer space where I can perform in peace, share my music, and spread my message without worrying about my safety or anyone else’s.”
