When a cappella kids’ group Acapop! hit the stage of The Kelly Clarkson Show for the biggest live gig of their career, the pro singer was swept off her feet by the young singers’ incredible talent—especially once they started singing a sweet selection of Kelly’s own songs!
Acapop!’s incredible performance has since gone YouTube viral, amassing more than 1.6 million views to date. Music Man readers can watch the magic unfold in the video below. But be warned: Acapop!’s inspiring story comes with a tragic twist…
The pressure was on for Acapop!’s TV debut. But the kids handled the tension like absolute pros. As the first teen singer begins the set with the bold and beautiful chorus from Kelly’s own debut single, “A Moment Like This,” Kelly is visibly stunned by the young girl’s impeccable vocal runs, glitzing the hit with R&B tones in her striking perfect pitch.
As the Acapop! kids lay a stirring harmony beneath their lead vocalist, Kelly can’t help but be blown away as their tune melts into a medley. The kids soon vocalise the backing track to Kelly’s 2004 hit, “Breakaway,” this time fronted by a young male singer.
But when a pipsqueak young girl takes on the sassy lines of “Miss Independent” with a voice like Christina Aguilera, Kelly looks as if she’s about to break into some serious fangirl screaming.
Snippets of “Since You Been Gone” and “Because Of You” are fleshed out with mind-blowing harmonies. A verse from “Piece By Piece” almost moves Kelly to tears as the sugar-sweet young singer puts a spin on Kelly’s emotional lyrics, followed by segments of “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).” By the end of their set, Kelly is up on stage hugging the teen singers and telling them, “That was so perfect!”
As stellar as their live set was, it’s impossible to talk about Acapop! without tributing their late member, Nolan Gibbons, who can be spotted in this viral clip – the lad furthest to the right at the start of this Kelly Clarkson Show performance.
Tragically, Nolan passed away at just 15 years old. According to his official website, “On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, just one month after his 15th birthday, Nolan passed in his sleep. After an extensive investigation, in which no cause could be found, Nolan’s death was classified as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC). His case is now part of a research study at SUDCRRC at NYU Langone, which hopes to find answers to cases like this.”
Acapop! has truly captured hearts with their stunning a cappella renditions, even impressing the likes of Kelly Clarkson herself.
